Elton John Shares the Golden Moments of His Legendary Life

The World Gold Council has unveiled Touched by Gold, a new documentary that captures the enduring influence of gold on culture, creativity, and society—told through the extraordinary life and career of Elton John.

The film offers a rare look inside Elton’s personal archive, charting how gold has shaped his music, style, and identity. From dazzling stage costumes to treasured awards, Touched by Gold reveals how the brilliance of gold has been a constant inspiration throughout his artistry and individuality.

Beyond glamour and performance, the documentary also highlights gold’s crucial role in medicine and science. Elton himself has relied on this precious metal since 1999, when he was fitted with a pacemaker that uses gold components. The film also shines a light on gold’s role in developing HIV detection technologies—an area deeply connected to Elton’s advocacy through the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which has raised more than $650 million since its founding in 1992.

Reflecting on his journey, Elton John said:
“From the moment I was presented with my first gold disc in 1970, gold has been part of some of my defining moments—my awards, the microphones I’ve used, and even the gold lamé suit I wore on stage at Glastonbury.
