IKEA’s First City-Centre Store in Southeast Asia to make debut on Sukhumvit Road
IKEA Thailand’s 4th store and first to be located in the heart of Bangkok to take up all 3rd floor of the Emsphere mall
IKEA Thailand is set to open its first city-centre store "IKEA Sukhumvit" by late 2023. The “city-centre store” will bring home furnishing inspirations from IKEA for residents of metropolitan Bangkok, expecting to serve 2 million shoppers in the first year of the operation.
The store’s strategic location near the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection will leverage Bangkok’s well-connected sky train line and public transport system allowing residents to access functional, affordable, sustainable, and well-designed home furnishing solutions. It will complement the other two stores - Bang Na and Bang Yai - in Bankgok
Leonie Hoskin, Retail Manager, IKEA Thailand and Vietnam, said: “The new store will serve four million visitors living in the Sukhumvit area as well as other places in Bangkok, who will now have a more convenient reason to come to the store.”
IKEA Sukhumvit marks the first partnership between IKEA Thailand and The Mall Group. Previously, the company has partnered with the other retail giant Central Group. The new store will strengthen The EM District, a world-class business and lifestyle destination. Located on the third floor of The Emsphere on 12,000 sq. m. area, IKEA Sukhumvit will be packed with IKEA favorites, with a complete variety of Room Sets, the Market Hall, Self-serve, and IKEA Restaurant, in addition to other services such as Click & Collect.
"Shoppers will find anything they want here as we will have almost 10,000 items in the store," said Ms. Sirin Atsilarat, as Store Manager of IKEA Sukhumvit.
The city-centre store concept is a key strategy for IKEA’s new expansion around the world and has received an overwhelming response in locations including Paris, Vienna, and Shanghai. The latest one has just been opened in Stockholm, Sweden. IKEA Sukhumvit will be combining both the Swedish style, incorporating the origin and heritage of IKEA, together with a Thai influence as IKEA has been in the local market for more than 10 years.
The IKEA Sukhumvit is one of the largest city-centre stores. Only Hong Kong (15,000 sq. m) is bigger than Thailand's.
IKEA Sukhumvit has appointed a Thai team member, Ms. Sirin Atsilarat, as Store Manager of IKEA Sukhumvit after having been with IKEA for more than eight years as a Sustainability Manager, and Local Marketing and Communication Manager at IKEA Bangna, Store Manager at IKEA Phuket, and Deputy Store Manager at IKEA Bang Yai. She has a wealth of experience and gained a deep understanding of the needs of IKEA’s Thai consumers.
Ms. Sirin said that this new store will meet the needs of the many Thais who want to have an IKEA store in the city. IKEA Sukhumvit will provide a complete IKEA shopping experience from Room Sets, the Market Hall, and IKEA Restaurant where everyone can enjoy traditional Swedish recipes plus new selections on rotation with a stunning view of Benjasiri park. It will even have a self-serve area which is a hugely popular photo spot for IKEA fans. IKEA Sukhumvit will also offer unique concepts making this newest store a fun destination for everyone.
IKEA Sukhumvit will open with a dedicated team of 200 members filling a range of positions. The store will be ready to welcome customers at the end of 2023.
