Marriott International plans to introduce The Luxury Collection to Laos and Cambodia with two heritage hotel conversions in Luang Prabang and Siem Reap, located near major UNESCO W

Marriott International has announced an agreement with KS Hotels to introduce The Luxury Collection brand to Cambodia and Laos through the conversion of two long-established boutique properties: La Résidence Angkor in Siem Reap and La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang.

The move will mark Marriott’s first hotel in Laos and the debut of The Luxury Collection in both countries. The two properties, known for their distinctive architecture and cultural setting, are expected to undergo upgrades that align them with the brand’s global standards while preserving their heritage and local character.

Located in two of Southeast Asia’s most historically significant destinations—both home to UNESCO World Heritage sites—the hotels have long attracted travellers seeking a quieter, more culturally rooted hospitality experience.

La Résidence Phou Vao, set on a hillside overlooking the historic town of Luang Prabang, is expected to join The Luxury Collection portfolio in October 2026.

Surrounded by tropical gardens, the property overlooks the UNESCO-protected old town, the Mekong River and Mount Phousi. The resort is expected to feature 41 rooms and suites, each incorporating traditional Lao craftsmanship and private balconies or terraces with views of the surrounding hills.

Planned facilities include an outdoor pool, yoga deck, fitness centre and a spa. A restaurant concept, La Brasserie de la Résidence, is expected to combine French bistro influences with Lao cuisine, reflecting the region’s cultural blend.

Luang Prabang—situated at the meeting point of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers—is widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s best-preserved historic towns, known for its Buddhist monasteries, French colonial architecture and long-standing spiritual traditions.

A riverside property near Angkor

In Siem Reap, La Résidence Angkor is scheduled to join the brand in October 2027. The low-rise hotel sits along the Siem Reap River and close to Angkor Archaeological Park, one of the world’s most significant archaeological landscapes.

The property is expected to offer 59 rooms, including 14 suites, alongside three private residences with outdoor pools. Design elements are planned to reflect classical Cambodian aesthetics while integrating contemporary comforts.

Dining concepts are expected to include a mix of local and international influences, from an alfresco brasserie to a casual restaurant focused on regional Mekong flavours. Additional facilities will include a spa, outdoor pool, fitness centre and boutique retail space featuring locally crafted products.

Siem Reap remains Cambodia’s primary cultural gateway, not only to Angkor’s temples but also to a growing arts scene, markets and communities around Tonlé Sap Lake.

Marriott International signing Lao, CambodiaExpanding The Luxury Collection in Southeast Asia

Once completed, the two conversions will expand The Luxury Collection’s presence in Southeast Asia, where the brand already operates hotels in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.

For Marriott International, the Luang Prabang property will represent the company’s first hotel in Laos, while the Siem Reap addition will strengthen its existing presence in Cambodia.

Both hotels are expected to offer experiences designed to connect visitors with the cultural and historical heritage of their destinations, aligning with The Luxury Collection’s focus on place-driven travel.
