Sanctuary Bangkok's Sky-High Design Wins Asia's Top Biophilic Award

Sanctuary Bangkok, a serene bar and hideaway perched 34 floors above the city center, has been recognized for its innovative design, winning “Asia: No. 1 Alfresco & Biophilic Design” at the prestigious 2025 Restaurants & Bars Design Awards.

The award celebrates the venue’s success in translating its philosophy—to be "an escape from urban chaos"—into a tangible, living space. The design harmoniously blends nature, tranquility, and contemporary architecture to offer an experience that nourishes the mind and spirit.

An Answer to the Metropolis

The core of Sanctuary Bangkok’s concept began with a simple yet profound question: “How can we create a space of calm in the midst of a bustling metropolis?”

The answer, realized by the design team at Paper Plane Project Studio, resulted in a space that is both a shelter and a stage. The design embraces the rooftop’s constraints, creating an enveloping, sculptural form that shields occupants from the city's noise while framing an open view of the sky.

Inspired by cathedral-like order and the principles of biomimicry, the architecture features an organic, three-axis geometry. Natural materials reinforce the concept, establishing a seamless dialogue between built form and nature. This approach redefines the art of spatial design, integrating nature and urban living into one poetic experience.

Global Recognition for Vision

The accolade, presented at the 2025 Restaurants & Bars Design Awards in EPIK Dubai, acknowledges exceptional works across global hospitality design. The win reflects the design team’s dedication and the shared vision with the client, proving that their collaboration aimed beyond creating “just another venue,” resulting instead in a space defined by character, beauty, and emotional depth.
