ONYX Hospitality Group, a leading Southeast Asian hospitality management company, is taking bold steps to ensure its hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, and luxury residences lead the way in sustainability. The group—which manages brands like Amari, OZO, Shama, and Oriental Residence—has partnered with global sustainability innovators Rynn Water, Winnow VisionAI, and ecoSPIRITS to implement cutting-edge solutions across its hotels and restaurants in Thailand.
These collaborations will enhance service quality, minimize environmental impact, and accelerate ONYX’s progress toward its ambitious sustainability goals.
Mr. Yuthachai Charanachitta, CEO of ONYX Hospitality Group, stated, “Our collaboration with Rynn Water, Winnow VisionAI, and ecoSPIRITS underscores ONYX’s commitment to leading sustainable hospitality in the region. By integrating world-class technologies, we demonstrate how innovation can tangibly reduce carbon footprints, minimize waste, and drive positive change for the entire hospitality industry.”
The initiatives are currently piloting successfully at Amari Bangkok and Amari Kuala Lumpur, showing measurable results and reinforcing ONYX Hospitality Group’s role as a sustainability model in Southeast Asia.
The project also enhances the skills of Thai chefs and local teams, lowers operating costs, and encourages the use of locally sourced ingredients, delivering dual benefits to the business and the environment. By leveraging this technology, ONYX is actively transforming its properties into sustainable hotels that meet evolving global trends and customer expectations for “green innovation.”
The Innovations: Driving Specific Results
-
Rynn Water (Water Management): Rynn uses an advanced nanofiltration system to produce mineral water on-site, retaining beneficial properties. This system dispenses still and sparkling water directly into premium, reusable glass bottles. This innovation significantly reduces plastic consumption, eliminates the carbon footprint associated with transporting bottled water, and earned international recognition with the prestigious Good Design Award.
-
Winnow VisionAI (Food Waste): Winnow, the world’s leading artificial intelligence system for food waste management, uses computer vision to automatically detect and analyze kitchen waste. This technology has successfully reduced food waste by 58% at Amari Bangkok and 67% at Amari Kuala Lumpur, while also decreasing ingredient procurement costs. The resulting savings allow the group to redirect budgets toward sourcing high-quality, local ingredients instead of losing funds to waste. This initiative directly supports Thailand’s Circular Economy goals.
-
ecoSPIRITS (Beverage Packaging): ecoSPIRITS is the world’s first premium alcoholic beverage packaging technology that uses a closed-loop system to minimize carbon emissions and waste. This innovative approach reduces packaging waste by up to 95% and cuts the carbon footprint by 60–90%. For example, one reusable ecoTOTE container holds the equivalent of six glass bottles and can replace over 1,000 single-use bottles over its lifetime. This allows ONYX to serve world-class beverages in its premium bars while significantly reducing environmental impact.
Mr. Yuthachai emphasized that reducing carbon emissions is a core part of ONYX’s national and global commitments, focusing on achieving tangible reductions and sustainable operations. The group’s carbon reduction initiatives align with Thailand’s Long-Term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
